MG ZR won't start

Hi, hoping someone can help me with a problem I have with my car. It's an MG ZR and it won't start when I turn the key. All it does is make a rapid beeping noise when the key is fully turned in the ignition.

Some background to this problem: Wed night I was in the car. I leaned over to open the passenger door but it wouldn't open - I just assumed the handle was playing up. A few minutes later I started driving again. I got about a mile and the car started losing power. I pulled over and the car stalled. I restarted the car, it would idle but once I pressed the accelerator the car would stall again. I assumed I must have been out of fuel - the car was on the red. (I don't think the car was on the red for long, but I could be wrong). I left the car parked along the side of the road. I returned the following morning with fuel. I filled it up and tried to start it. It wouldn't start and after a few goes I had killed the battery. I left it and returned later that day with more fuel and a spare battery which had been charged overnight recently. I put the fuel in and turned the ignition to II and off again a couple of times. I could hear the fuel pump priming. (I had been worried that this may be what had gone). I turned the key and the car started. I drove it for a few minutes and parked it up at my house. When I went to leave again the car wouldn't start. This time it was making a beeping noise and the car wasn't even attempting to start. I guessed it was probably the spare battery and decided to switch it. I took the battery out of a ford focus that I knew was working. I placed it in the car and tried it. Again it wouldn't start - just the same rapid beeping sound. After a good few goes I took the battery out. I put it back in the focus and low and behold it wouldn't start that car anymore. I have since charged up that battery but it won't start my car. I'm still getting the beeping sound. I've changed the battery in the key fob with another taken out of another key, in case it's the immobiliser but no luck with that. I'm going to change the positive connector this evening as I could see a few of the copper strands were fractured and that connector isn't a good fit on the battery terminal. Aside from that I'll try and look for any loose connections and/or bad earths.

If anyone can give any help it would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

From my Rover 200 days, that's the immobilizer.

I didn't read all your post, but try disconnecting the battery for a while and reconnecting.

There is a method to re-sync the fob with the alarm/immob, but I can't remember which. I remember when I had the same issue in the past it was a matter of pressing the buttons on the fob in a certain way and hey presto.

-Edit- Also, the fuel pump went on my Rover 200 - nuisance of a job!

Try 'Googling ' your problem - can be very helpful .
I think I read somewhere that once the car is running the immobiliser will not cause it to cut out etc - so I think the fact it restarted on Wed would indicate that the immob was not the problem on that occasion ; sounds like you were out of fuel . Running low on fuel can put extra pressure on the fuel pump and if pump is getting weak could hasten its failure.
Have you any flashing/unusual lights on the dash - there is usually something to indicate if the immobiliser has not been 'disarmed' etc .
Read up on it and see what beeping indicates etc .
