I'll try to make this short :P

    40 year old Male (98kg)

I started the C25K a few weeks ago.

My ankle was a little sore after a run on Monday (2 x 1.8k & 400m walking in between).

Today i tried to do Week 7 day 1 (One 4k run), got to about 2k and my ankle was pretty sore, so i stopped and walked the rest.

Feeling a little deflated after making such good progress.

I guess with running is it the norm to get injuries and have to rest up for a while and do another form of fitness?

I probably should warm up more with extra stretches etc.

Any words of wisdom from you experienced runners? ;)

Go to a physio, don't look for medical advice on an Internet chat forum.

I was not asking for medical advice Vito.

As a newbie runner i am sure i am making mistakes, and was looking for some pearls of wisdom from runners who were in the same boat when they started out.

Sorry moonboy if I was short,
First off fair play to take up the running a while back I was in the sane boat as you,
The sore ankle could be down to a number of things, wrong shoes, an old injury, maybe doing the runs too fast, doing a get running plan it's more about time on your feet than speed if you know wgat I mean.

Maybe take a day or 2 rest, and take up where you left off if your still in bother make an appointment with a physio, they're the best people to guide you with such matters.
What ever happens best of luck with it,

Cheers Vito. I'll take a few days off and do more stretches beforehand.

If it persists i will consult a physio.

Hi, I've started running like you c25k and then onto longer runs now. My ankles get sore when i run for a length of time. I'm pretty sure it's down to our weight on our ankles and them not being used to t. When it hurts stop, rest until it's better and do it again. They will strengthen.

do calf and ankle strength stretches maybe? Personally I'm not doing much just resting for a few days between each run.

A day or two between runs helps alright. Our muscles in the ankle area will be sore at the start alright. The plan is to do more stretches prior to the run. I am enjoying running and improving on distance each week :)

hate this type of comment, in 13 years on different forums I'm fairly sure I've never written a blunt response like that

Moonboy52, for what its worth I came thru the c25k a year ago and am still running. I've had injuries in those 16 months up and down both legs and it goes on. My best pearl of wisdom would be to not do a whole lot of stretching before a run, more of a walking warmup to increase the heartrate and blood supply to your muscles. I wouldnt stretch calfs to full length before hitting the road, done that, pulled one.
