Our toddler got her little finger crushed in a doorway by her older brother(all will be ok thank God) . We spent over six hours in the Children's hospital in Crumlin just to get an xray and a bandage. It was completely crazy busy there and clear to see the staff are run off their feet literally.
Is there somewhere like the Blackrock Clinic (which will see kids over 14 in their emergency department) in south Dublin or North Wicklow that we could go to if there is a next time?

The vhi swiftcare clinic in Dundrum can deal with certain injuries - last time we were there I'm fairly sure there was a child getting a cast on. They will send you on to Crumlin if it's something they can't deal with. I'm not sure exactly what injuries they do deal with but it might be worth checking out next time (and with kids there will be a next time!)

Thanks Woshy, just had a look at their website and they do treat over age 12 months which would be great for us! With 0 wait time (advertised), that would be brilliant!, thanks :)

No problems - we've been there twice with our little boy, once for an ear infection and once for tonsillitis and it's very handy. Hardly any waiting time and lovely new, clean facilities. We were with VHI so only paid half the fee but we've moved to Aviva now so will need to pay the full cost. I still think it's worth it though!

I see the website says they do deal with fractures, sprains and possible breaks which is handy.

The Mater rapid injuries clinic in Smithfield is handy for stuff like breaks, cuts and sprains. It's not private (normal A&E cost) and only open 8-6 AFAIK but it was almost empty the last time I went there.

They dont deal with kids..under 16 I think.

My son got his finger crushed in a door a few weeks ago, We went to Temple St. In and out in 90 minutes including xrays.
They told us to com back next morning for an appointment in the plastic surgery clinic but thankfully he didn't need surgery. Went back a week later for a check up and we were discharged

90 minutes sounds pretty great by comparison and its probably as easy if not easier for us to get to. Now to the family insurance policy and see which hospitals are covered!

I have used the Swiftcare clinic in Dundrum a few times when the children needed stitches.

However, if they are unsure about a childs xray they will send you to Tallaght anyway, where you will need another xray. They don't have the same expertise as a Childrens hospital.

If its a broken bone, I'd prefer my child to be seen by a paediactric specialist, even if there is a wait.

The VHI swiftcare clinics are really nice and alot less stress then A&E.

I've been to A&E in Temple St twice with my lad, 1st time the place was packed and we were there for hours. 2nd time was the middle of the night so we were seen quickly. When he cut his head we went to the VHI Swiftcare Clinic in Swords, we weren't long enough in the waiting room to sit down before we were called in. For minor injuries I'd definitely take him to the VHI clinic again.

Apologies. I was there myself so didn't realize. Also good to know for my own kids.

Children's section in Tallaght is very good and never that busy.

Our experience, taking your child to VHI clinic is 50/50. If they are unsure at all they will send you to A&E anyway.
The A&E facilities in Temple Street are an absolute disgrace IMHO.
