    quick question

i was working for a company today and they put me on a volvo rigid truck was laid up 3 weeks, i start the truck up i get 3 different warning lights and then when they go off it says check engine ecu,

had a look around the truck and the passenger side lift wheel was bald and had a large nail in it also the curtains on the passenger side had 5 of the 14 straps missing and quite a few rips on each curtain,

so mentioned it to the relevant people and they just got someone to wipe the faults off the truck and that the check ecu warning is common on these

was told that the bald wheel was on the lift wheels so it didn't matter and that the truck is due to be scrapped in the next few weeks

now when i drove it for a few mins i got the engine ecu warning, brake ecu warning and air ecu warning

am i right that i should have refused to drive this truck

You should have refused to drive it did you fill out your daily checklist?? A engine light isn't the end of the world but the tyre and straps are a big concern..

Refuse to drive it. Simply as. You are the one who will be held legally responsible for taking it out on the road in the first place.

If you have an accident, you as the driver will be held responsible along with the owners. If the RSA/Gardai stop you and inspect it they will impound the truck if its in that sort of condition, fine you for driving it, points on your license and again the owners will be fined/prosecuted.

If you are on twitter look up @GardaTraffic and take a look at the pictures of what they are finding on the roads and the penalties they are handing out! Its mind boggling what people will drive. Bald tyres, loads not secured, rusted components, bits hanging off trucks. The days of chancing your arm are long gone and if you are caught the RSA/Gardai/Courts will take a giant sh1t on you.

Have you been through an RSA check point yet? I have twice and they all but pull on the rubbers gloves and climb up your ar$e. Everything and I mean everything is checked, down to your spare light bulbs. As in have you spare bulbs in the truck.

Just not worth it. Your boss isn't going to take the penalty points or pay your fine is he?

As Mal said, did you fill out the daily check list? It's a legal requirement and you need to show it on the tachograph at the start of each day.

was told that the bald wheel was on the lift wheels so it didn't matter

    Isn't that actually true?
If bald tyre is on axle which is actually lifted and not in use, is it still illegal to drive a vehicle like that?
