Will broken foglights fail the NCT?

I have lost the covers (foglight blanks) on my car and currently it just has two large holes in the front. I know it will pass NCT in it's current state, but the holes are ugly so I was thinking of buying some cheap second hand lights to put in place of the ugly holes.
The problem is, I'm not sure I can wire them up because I can only see one plug, so basically I might buy foglights that don't work. Does anyone know if the NCT cares about this? It would be really ****ty to buy something that would make me fail NCT.

I just did the NCT and one of my front fogs wasn't working so either they don't check it or they forgot to in my case.

    You got lucky.

If the lights are present, they must work.

I don't think so unless they have updated their policy.

As in most cases, the actual answer is in the publicly availablePDF.

    52
NATIONAL CAR TEST (NCT) MANUAL 2014
    32
    AUXILIARY LAMP CONDITION AND POSITION
    Method of Testing
    1.
Check that each auxiliary lamp fitted is securely and correctly fixed to the vehicle.
    2.
Check that the switching mechanism is functioning correctly and that any auxiliary lamps set in the headlamp main beam
position are extinguished when the headlamp dipped beams are brought into operation.
    NOTES
[1. Where auxiliary lamps are found to be inoperative, this should not be considered a reason for failure

I wouldnt do it.If she will pass the way she is get the test first. Its hard to get aftermarket lights fitted 100%.The blanks should be easy enough to pick up from a breakers or ebay via parcel motel. But try the main dealer too,i remember having to get one for an astra h a few years back and it was quite reasonable.

A few years back one of the fog bulbs went outside of the centre. Not knowing what to do and not having time to go and get a bulb, a farmer queuing beside me told me that he would get me masking tape and I was to cover both foglamps with them. He said they wouldn't be tested if they were both covered up.
    He was righ!!

It may be a fail but tbh it has never been for me. At no time when they've tested a car for me have I seen them using the fogs.
And I'm one of those people that hang in the window watching their every move...

Thanks for directing me to the PDF but I believe you are wrong.
It does however seem to have the answer I'm looking for within the same section.

The manual does not seem to refer to foglights as auxiliary lights, instead spotlights would count as auxilliary lights. In fact it differentiates between them in the following line.
    ITEM
    Front Fog Lamp

    REASONS FOR FAILURE
1 Incorrectly positioned (see page 53).
    2 Insecurely mounted.
3 Switch defective or does not operate lamp independently of
    side light.

    4 Not white or yellow

In short: Yes it should fail :/
Link for anybody else: https://www.ncts.ie/NCT%20Manual%20Revise%20May%202012.pdf (Page 32)

    Thanks for your answers guys.

I got my car tested two weeks ago. One of the fog light bulbs was gone so went and bought a new one but ended up getting wrong one which I discovered the night before the test over in my mechanics. He just disconnected the other one and it passed.

He said if only one works, its a fail but if neither work, its a pass. Said that plenty of people have false fogs fitted.
