Sky blocking phone no

I cancelled Sky tv and broadband today and they have said that there is now a number block on the existing phone number, meaning it can't be used for a phone/broadband account with Sky for the next 6-8 weeks.
Does this now mean anyone else at this address cant sign up, or is it simply a case of them needing to apply for a new phone number?
I did not break contract and am not in arrears or anything.
Has anyone else ever heard of this?
    Thank you

If you've actually cancelled your phone and broadband and not transferred them to another provider you may have to wait for the address to reappear on eircoms database. Reordering tv should be possible.

Same thing happened my mother last year.

Someone from eircom knocked on her door and promised her a great phone and. broadband deal got her to ring sky and cancel her account and then they would come back and sign her up.

She cancelled sky and put the order in with eircom the next week it took eircom 11 weeks to get the line back into the directory and place the order. Then they told her there was no room in her exchange for broadband as her old line had been replaced by some one else. She. also lost her phone number which she was promised she could keep so there is no guarantee that you will get your old number back or that you will even be able to get a BB compatible line when it gets back into the directory.

Thanks guys, it seems a bit crazy to me still though.
Can a new phone number be set up for the phone line I wonder?

Yes your new provider will give you a new number once your line comes back into the directory.

How is it other people seem to be able to cancel sky and someone else sign up at the same address with no problem, yet the one time I try after many years it all goes haywire? Typical!

TV is different to BB, people who pull the stunt with BB find themselves with copper BB for quite a while
