Going to buy LR- a few questions

    Hi,
I'm going to buy LR (Lightroom) standalone this month. This time I am, honestly.
I got the free trial but never used it (I know...).
    some questions-
    1. Is there any easy way to get the free trial again?
    2. At Adobe.com the price is €129.15. Are there cheaper ways to buy it (I'm not a student), e.g. through a reseller/other site, anywhere to get promotional codes?
    3. LR 6 is coming out this year I think. What is upgrade price normally if you have an earlier version?
    4. Will LR 5 be reduced coming up to the LR 6 release?
    5. Is it worth waiting for LR6?
    Anything else to note?

    Thanks,
    Pa.

    1. No idea
    2. I think most places are about that price
    3. The upgrade is usually a little over half of the original price.
    4. Some shops may do it to get rid of stock but I didn't really see it happen with LR4 approaching the release of LR 5.
    5. I think Panorama photomerge / HDR and gpu acceleration were the only confirmed new features in LR6 (there are lots of other rumours), so it depends on if they are something you would use. You can do them in photoshop if you have that.

I found Amazon cheapest for buying Lightroom.

    Upgrade cost is around €99.

There is no price reduction in LR5, before LR6 is released. One ends, the other begins.

If in no rush, wait for LR6, assuming they will also release that in client version, rather than Adobe cloud model. PS with LR is only €12.99 per month, so can be worth considering too.

yeah, except quantitative easing and all that.

Euro being sh*te notwithstanding. Places like BandH offer deep discounts if you buy it with something else, so if you have a planned purchase - I think i paid $50 usd for it this time last year with a lens that was about $200. They won't deliver that to ireland at those prices, you need to have a US address.

In august I got the photoshop plan for €10/month but it was only that price briefly, its been €12.29 since. Its not expensive if you use it. TBH i have been using the hell out of lightroom, but only scratching around photoshop - so it would have made more sense for me to stick to the stand alone lightroom - but i've given that away since.

What have you been using up to now??

Isn't there a monthly rental scheme that adobe are running...and you get both LR and PS latest versions

I've been using Picasa 3 and happy with it. But virtually everyone says LR is much better. I've had a quick look and it does seem very good.

Personally I think the plan is the best value as you get photoshop, bridge and Lightroom, while you get access to upgrades as / when they occur.

The only challenge with the plan is keeping your operating systems software current on your workstations.

If buying a standalone version of Lightroom - hold off a few days - pretty sure I read Lightroom 6 is out today or early next week..

    I've seen LR3 online for €30-40

I only upgraded from 3 to 5 last summer and it has 90% (if not more) of the same features.
