Apparently 50 dogs have died in the last few months from Alabama Rot in the UK. Vets know very little about it other than fact it causes kidney failure in dogs. Symptoms usually start off with red lesions on the dogs paws or legs, then the dog becomes ill.

Very worrying indeed considering vets dont even know if there has been previous undiagnosed cases or how it spreads :( hopefully it hasnt made its way over here...

Cant post url to article I read because im a new user, but if you google alabama rot theres a few informative articles about it.

    Anyone heard of this before?

Numerous alarmist media articles have propagated this "disease" from the US to the UK, in most cases it is either:

    1) skin lesions

    or:

    2) acute kidney injury

Rarely are the 2 linked, and if so one of the differential diagnoses may well be idiopathic cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy ("Alabama Rot"). It is incredibly rare, but the most recent scientific article is here.
