New Role but still on my old Salary

    Hi All,

    I'm hoping you could provide some advice/insight regarding my situation below:

    I transitioned to a new role within my company at the end of January.

    This new role meant taking a small pay-cut compared to my previous role but I decided it was worth it as part of my longer term goals.

    Anyway, my issue is that I haven't signed any contract yet pertaining to my new role and I am still on the higher Salary associated with my previous role! (I was paid in Feb. and now again in March)

    I guess just keeping shtum and not saying anything wouldn't be a great idea? - I'm fairly certain that if I kept quiet I would continue to be paid my older salary.

    Are there any potential negative consequences as a result of not having signed a new contract?

    If they keep paying me my old salary, can they then (once I bring it to their attention?) retrospectively deduct the over payments for previous months in one go?

    I suppose, should I even bring it to their attention or just turn a blind eye as it's HR's business?!?!

    In the context of your overall relationship with the company, I don't think keeping shtum is a good idea. If you were prepared to take a modest pay cut in exchange for better long term prospects, why jeopardise those prospects by possibly been seen as having tried to pull a fast one?

    I think they would appreciate your honesty in bringing it to their attention and I also think you should be prepared to take the hit in one go and not make an issue of it. Regarding how to bring it to their attention, I think the best way would be to mention to your boss that, although you have moved into your new role since end January, you haven't yet received the new contract for signing and that payroll are still paying you at the old rate.

    Yeah, thanks. That's the option I've been inclined to go with.

    I've spoken to my manager and brought this it to her attention.
