I'm (hopefully) going to NUIG as a 1st year in September, to do computer science, and was looking for advice on accommodation. I have no interest in house parties, and I don't plan on going into the city every weekend for nights out. I am going to be cycling to and from campus, and was wondering what accommodation would be best?

If your not interested in parties and the like I'd suggest that digs would be suited to you. You'd be sharing with the owner of the property, so disturbances through noise and partying are unlikely. The university maintains a private accommodation list for students at the link below. You'll also find multiple advertisements online for digs or other shared housing come July and August.

Just on the cycling, try get as close to the college as you can, cycling in to lectures in the rain is a massive inconvenience! I lived about a forty minute walk away from NUIG in my first year, big mistake!

You should look at Atlantis student accommodation. My daughter stayed there this year. Quiet place and only a few mins cycle from college. Worked out well for her. Nearer than Dunaras, Gort or Cuirt. No connection to the place but just found it was ideal for her.

As a piece of advice, make sure you're near campus. Especially for 1st year. I think Gort is full at this stage, Corrib wouldn't be full until August (and if you're not into partying you could still go but it wouldn't be the first on my list). As far as student accommodation goes, Cúirt isn't cheap but Dun Áras is good from what I hear. If you search online from other people's opinions on places you should get the gist.

I'm the exact same! I applied to Donegan Court because it seemed quiet, but close enough that biking won't be a total disaster... and if it sucks we can commiserate. Good luck! (also it seems like one of the more reasonably priced options)

I've just asked to get into my brother's old apartment, which is about a 10 minute cycle from NUIG, but if it doesn't work out, Donegan Court definitely seems like the next best thing. Yeah, the rates aren't crazy. Good luck to you too :)
