Smashed laptop screen- repair or replace?

    Hey all

I have an Acer Aspire 5742 15.6", and my friend very kindly stuck her foot through the screen:eek:, which is completely cracked. The laptop itself works perfectly, can connect to TV via HDMI.

Question is, do I repair (and if so, how much is reasonable), or use this as an opportunity to trade up?
PC is used for your average joe stuff- iTunes, downloads, Skype, with a bit of Photoshop every now and then...

    Thanks!

How old is the laptop? What is the spec - RAM? Disk?

I replaced the screen on a kid's laptop last week for €110.

I'd repair it, bar not having usb3 everything else seems to be good specs.

Check on ebay or amazon for the screen, you'll probably pick one up for about €80 maybe cheaper.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/ACER-ASPIRE-5742G-LAPTOP-SCREEN/dp/B00754YULO

Easy enough to do yourself with plenty of clips on youtube.

Ha I wouldn't trust myself to replace but it could be a good option... my friend said she'd pay but don't want to bleed her dry!

Tech-Care in the old Dundrum Shopping Centre did the biz for me for a decent price.

Ive used http://www.laptopscreen.co.uk/ and http://www.accupart.co.uk/ in the past. A good service and reasonably priced.

Its then a 10 minute job to replace the screen yourself.
