    Hi all,

I'm heading to London for a weekend in May. I will have the Sat to myself and am planning spending the day walking the legs off myself with my camera. I will have my D40 and 18-55mm lens with me and that's it (that's all I have anyway!!).

Has anyone any recommendations or areas in particular to photograph? My initial plan is to head to Covent Garden for breakfast & coffee and take it from there.

    Thanks,
    Loire.

Another option would be a hop on hop off tourist bus and you could get to almost all of the main sites. Tower Bridge is a personal fave and you can see HMS Belfast and the Shard from near the Tower of London too.

That's what I'll do. Kinda obvious really :o

If it was me I'd spend some of the time visiting exhibitions in London. There's always great shows on and you can probably work your photography between them.
Don't spend your time trying to photograph too much. Spend time getting better photos at a couple of places.

There's some pretty cool looking underground stations. Some have funky 60s styling, I don't know which ones though.

Walk from London tower up to westminster you'll see some of the most iconic buildings in London.

I'd also think of walking from Tower Bridge towards Westminster. Will get in a lot of the iconic stuff like, of course tower bridge, tower of London, HMS Belfast, Millenium Bridge, The Globe Theater, London Eye, then head into Westminster past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament

    I'd second that.

St. Paul's and the Millennium Bridge is a classic location, as is Tower Bridge.

I usually say that Battersea Power Station is a great location, but they are removing the towers for renovation at the moment.

If you do end up in Greenwich, take the River Taxi. It's cheap with an Oyster card and will bring you back onto Southbank. It's a really scenic journey.

Richmond Park for red and roe deer, though you would struggle with your lens.

    Kew Gardens for plant/nature photography.

City/Liverpool St. area for abstracts of office blocks.

Camden, Covent Garden, Brick Lane, Brixton for street photography (though anywhere would probably do).

Too much to do in a day of course, so choose wisely :)

    Be careful.

When in London if you have a camera you will be suspected of being a terrorist in some places.

Thanks for all that. Off now to research a "proper" pub for a refreshment and somewhere nice for lunch!

Drop in to The Photographer's Gallery, just off Oxford St, while you are there. I was in London in Feb and saw the current exhibition Human Rights, Human Wrongs. A very powerful and moving series of images. See http://thephotographersgallery.org.uk

Also, check the tourist info web sites to see if there are any interesting events on at the time you are there, which may be worth photographing.

    Enjoy the trip!
