Faulty Samsung tablet not covered by warranty

I bought a Samsung tab 4 two months ago. A purple strip appeared at the top of the screen. It definitely has not been dropped or sat on or damaged in any way as I'm incredibly careful with it. When I bought it back to the shop I was told they had to send it back to Samsung but it would most likely come back saying the damage was caused by impact and I would have to pay to get it fixed (which would cost almost as much as the tablet)
Is there anything I can do considering I'm certain I didn't cause the damage?
