9 spd Giant hub to 105 5800. Spacer?

Got my new wheels today. Rosebike's Xtreme Airline 4 with SH 105 5800 hub. I reuse the old cassette which is a 9 speed SRAM and was on a GIANT SR-2 hub. I bought the lockring tool but forgetting about the chain whip. I was able to get the freewheel off the old wheel with the help of my chain. I wrapped the chain around one cog then on opposite side to this held the chain ends together with a screwdriver laying on the rim outside. Put the 9 speed cassette on the new hub, tightened lockring but there's some lateral play.
Do I need a spacer with this? The included spacer mentions the 10 speed one not the 9 spd. I'm afraid of breaking my new wheel using the method above(if not having already broken it). So I cannot manage the lockring off this time. I'm gonna get a chain whip soon because it's breaking my heart now.

    Thanks for your advice!!!!

TO answer my question: yes, I need spacer as this Shimano 105 5800 hub is 11 speed. I worked the lockring free slightly modifying my method. Got the chain off the bike again, wrapped around one cog halfway then a big piece of timber beside the cog and completed the loop holding the chain around the timber by a screwdriver. So the cog was held firm by the chain and timber the teeth biting into it.

    Yes you need the spacer.

Thank you Cee-Jay-Cee! I thought the same as there was too much play on freewheel. It's off the hub now thanks God and the spacer goes on. No torque wrench either but the lockring should be ok tightened by feel.

I'm the troll this evening!:-) Had to get new protector disc as old wouldn't fit, 32 vs 36 spokes, 4 vs 3 clamps. The new one about half size of the old one(smaller than the biggest ring, older one has 1-2 cm overhang). Is it ok? Thanks a million!
I'm itching to get the bike together now. Haven't had a spin for 3 weeks now. And want to be more familiar with maintenance.

Bin the disc, they're ugly and do nothing but collect dirt and oil
