Tax free bursary question

    Hi,

I have just been accepted on to a course in Northern Ireland for which I'll receive a tax free bursary each year (paid in monthly installments).

My partner will be doing a course in the Republic (although near the border) and we had planned to live in the Republic, and I would commute as we can only afford one car.

My bursary in the North is awarded tax free and equates to a bit more than minimum wage. If I live in the Republic would I be required to pay tax on it? Money really will be tight for a few years, every little will help so I want everything to be crystal clear before committing to a lease!

We're currently living abroad, so I've been out of the loop for a few years. On a more general level of costs, taxes etc. where would you advise us to live - north or south of the border? My course also requires me to work in the North for 3 years after I qualify, so I need to keep that in mind too.

    Thank you in advance!
