Configure NAS for Macbook and Smart TV

    After many months of suffering an overheating VAIO I've finally taken the plunge and ordered a Macbook Retina 13". Over the weekend I started sorting out the files I'll need to migrate over and I realised I have a problem with my NAS setup.

    I have a 3TB Western Digital My Cloud drive connected to my router so it's accessible by my laptop, ios devices and Samsung Smart Tv. The disk is formatted as NTFS.

    If I understand correctly I should reformat it HFS+ for use with OSX. From what I can see the tv won't recognise that. I'm thinking that the best option may be make 3 partitions, 1 for timemachine backups, 1 for HFS+ and 1 for NTFS so I can still stream media files to the tv. I'll also probably need something like Paragon or Tuxera to write to the NTFS partition.

    Can anyone advise if I'm on the right track or if there are other solutions I should consider?

    You don't need to do anything to the NAS at all. It's accessed over the network so the Filesystem is irrelevant. The file system is only important if the drive is attached via USB where you are accessing the volumes directly. This isn't the case in this instance as you will be accessing it via WiFi or Ethernet. The drives in the NAS are actually formatted in a linux filesystem anyway but you won't get to see that deep into it normally..

    When you get your Mac post back and we can explain how to map the folders for access on the Mac OS.
