    Hi,

We had our dinner tasting for our wedding on Saturday night.
Everything went to plan except dessert, we had 4 and they were all delicious.
We've narrowed it down to the Apple Crumble and Creme Brulee.

Is Creme Brulee too risky though?? I'd be afraid its not for everyone.
    What do you think yourself?

Uhhh crème brulee would be nice alright and something a bit different..

I don't think it is too risky, as if lets say it didn't set or anything it just taste the same just looks a little runny. Id still eat it... If they served it with maybe a dipping biscuit at the side...

Cant wait to go for our taster it is on Sunday, cant choose the meat course it is a killer.

    what were the other two?
i love desserts but i'd never pick apple crumble out - make enough of it at home:)

love creme Brulee but i agree - not to everyone's taste. but if i had to chose between those two, i'd go for the Brulee.

    Crumble!!!! :)

Well I love creme brulee so I'm totally biased!

Btw, do most people offer a choice on dessert? I can't remember from other weddings I've been to. We're doing a choice on starter and choice on main, but not sure re dessert.

What time of year is the wedding?

Crumble to me is more and autumn/winter dessert. Brulee at other times.

    Wedding is June.

The crumble was very heavy fwiw.

Generally i'd go crumble myself but the CB was lovely and its a bit different to the norm.

We knew the manager of the hotel and didn't get a discount but did get a lot of menu options.
For dessert we had a pavlova, an apple crumble with custard on the side and a creme brulee. I reckon it was 45:45:10, I had thought a creme brulee would be more popular. Most older people went for the crumble and younger the pavlova. Summer wedding.

I love both options but would choose the crumble...esp if there is custard with it...Yum !!

True crumble is like a winter warmer dessert.

I wouldn't worry too much jaja321 about given the option for dessert, think people will either eat it or not eat. And sure if ye are having cake too, that will be loads.

Think we are aiming at having three small selections but on the one plate..mm strawberries and cream is one

Brulee definitely! Apple crumble although yummy imo is pretty boring...

Cool, we were both leaning towards the CB, but with slight trepidation as we were worried that many others wouldnt like it.

Go for the Creme Brulee! It's a bit different. I'm having Panna Cotta for my dessert! Yum!

I can't stand creme brûlée :o. I love most desserts but anything based on custard is a huge NO for me. Turns my stomach to even think of it, to be honest.

So yeah, it's a very risky option in my opinion. But then apple crumble is a very heavy alternative that's more suited to winter.

What were the other two options?

You'll never please everyone. I was at a wedding last week where creme brulee the dessert and it was only delish! My boyf can't abide fruity desserts, others love them. Some people hate creme brulee, others love it. Go with what you want!

Exotic fruit tartlet and Key Lime Pie.

Oooh, interesting. Were they not nice?

Mmmmm key lime pie sounds perfect for a summer wedding! But if you've already excluded it as an option, then just go for whatever you prefer.

Fruit tartlet was grand, both liked it but was our least fav, was pretty boring.

It was lovely, i adored it but 'the boss' preferred the crumble!!

I didnt want to post but I cant stand creme brulee either. (or cheesecake or anything of that consistency). But I still think you should go for it before crumble. crumble isnt a summer dessert. I wouldnt hold the creme brulee against you as long as the cake is daycent :D

I think you should revisit these two......apple crumble is too heavy for a summer wedding dessert. If it's a nice day people won't feel like it after a big meal and a good few drinks! And creme brulee is perfect but a few seem to think it's a bit risky. I would actually say either of the two you excluded would be better/more appropriate!!

The Key Lime Pie was a def runner for me.
Neither of us thought the Tartlet was amazing, though it was nice. Its something i'd never order personally.

Im beginning to think the crumble is out, its not a summer dessert at all and was heavy. (though gorgeous) :)

Key Lime Pie all the way here. Crumble to 'Winter warmer' and I'd be another in the 'doesn't like Creme Brulee' camp.

Had a lovely lemon pie, kind of more creamy than the usual lemon curd style, had lemon sorbet with it too, thought it was a perfect summer desert.

June Wedding ......... Key Lime Pie it has to be!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭Tarzana2

    Mmmm key lime pie.

Is your OH a bit worried that a lot of people won't like it, as it's not a very common dessert in Ireland as of now? (turning up on more and more menus though!)

Try to sell it to her as people like to try something new, even if it turns out they don't like it.

I know half the staff so got a thorough run down afterwards. Amazing how much of the drink of choice was non alcoholic despite going through loads of wine and proseco.

Why not have an assiette of desserts? A tiny key lime pie, tiny creme brulee and maybe something like a tiny apple tart served with either ice-cream or creme fraiche. I wouldn't go for the apple crumble either - Much too heavy for a summer wedding, IMO.

In my hotel there's a 5 euro supplement for that

So that means the drinkers that were there were piss heads! :)

Get her to swing towards key lime pie. They're delicious, and although not too many are familiar with them, are less likely to be disliked by people than creme brulés. FWIW, I love creme brule.
Crumble is lovely, but much too heavy as a dessert after eating 2-3 courses...

A lot of venues don't charge extra either. It's just an idea for the OP.

OP you're lucky.....my venue have given me a list of 11 desserts to choose from :-o
There's a tasting on this weekend....wedding diet out the window!
