I've a 09 VW Polo and lately cap keeps getting stuck. None of the guys at the petrol station can open it either, it just seems to fix itself after a day or two.

Any tips on how to stop it from happening or do I need to take it to the garage?

Is it the flat that stays locked ?
I had this fault on my audi and it wouldn't surprise me if a very similar part was fitted to polo.
New locking mechanism is the Cure but for emergencies, there should be a pull cord in your boot that will release it manually. It will be located inside where the fuel cap is.

I'm rubbish when it comes to cars so might not be explaining it well and am probably complicating something simple.

It's the flap/cover etc....when its open there's no issue unscrewing the cap.

What do you mean by new locking mechanism?

I've tried in the boot but no a clue what I'm doing!

Does it lock / unlock with the car doors or is it always locked and needs to released by button in the car?
Either way, it looks like the lock is defective.

    Sorry, unlocks with the doors.

I've had the car a few years, only been a problem in the last few weeks. I tried again since posting still stuck.

    Thanks for the help though

Make sure the car is unlocked when you're trying to open the flap. I've been caught a few times with mine.....

It's the catch on the right hand side that keeps sticking.

Lube it up usually works had all those problems on different cars.

Try a bit of wd40 or vaseline.
