Windows 8.1 genuine. Bios (and windows under system) reports 8gb ram (originally shipped with a single 4gb stick) after upgrade but says only 3.60 usable. Capped it to 8 in msconfig and then turned off the cap - no difference. Reason for upgrade "farmville is too slow". Latest bios installed. Could there just be a problem with the second slot? Current 4gb stick won't boot in second slot. Going to recommend an android laptop for zynga /flash games.

    Is it running 8.1 64bit?

Where did you purchase the RAM from? Sounds odd that it doesn't boot with only the new stick installed.

I had the ram knocking around but I also pulled the two 4gb sticks from my own laptop and put them into hers. I'm not overly worried because I don't think, even if I got the 2 stick working in it that the problem would be solved. That farmville game is resource hungry. But I even tried playing HD video from YouTube and it was completely unwatchable. It's a very week AMD processor in it. I was asuming because the laptop shipped with Windows 8(64bit) it could play Facebook games. I have a core i5 t410 with Intel graphics and farmville sends the fan flying around on that.
