Weird data behaviour

I'm scratching my head here trying to work out what's going on with data on my phone - a Moto G 5 on Tesco Mobile.

I have it configured to use wifi at home (which is more or less evening, night and morning) and then just use Tesco data during the day when I'm in the office.

What I'm seeing is that my Tesco data only *starts* being used when I get home from the office and continues to be used throughout the night until I leave for the office.

I've checked using ipchicken and the browser on the phone is using the wifi - it gives me the IP address for my DSL connection which the phone can only have reached over wifi.

Here's a snippet of todays usage. I'm at home so it is using the wifi, yet it's showing up on the Tesco call history.

    22-Mar-2015 13:37 Internet 1.34KB 0.00
    22-Mar-2015 12:56 Internet 1.28KB 0.00
    22-Mar-2015 12:46 Internet 1.27KB 0.00
    22-Mar-2015 12:35 Internet 1.62KB 0.00
    22-Mar-2015 12:25 Internet 2.07KB 0.00
    22-Mar-2015 12:14 Internet 2.28KB 0.00

Here's the usage from a weekday, showing data being recorded at home, but not in the office.
    18-Mar-2015 18:45 Internet 1.29KB 0.00
    18-Mar-2015 18:34 Internet 1.96KB 0.00
    18-Mar-2015 08:27 Internet 9.18MB 0.00
    18-Mar-2015 08:07 Internet 2.25KB 0.00

At the moment it's just puzzling, but shortly (when my free data runs out) it's going to start costing me money.

Can anyone shed any light on this? What's really puzzling me is how come the data kicks off when I get home which is exactly when it should be switching to wifi. My guess is that it's something location aware which is turning on when I get home, but I don't get why it's using the phones data instead of the wifi.

    Any suggestions?

    z

Possibly something to do with your WiFi sleep policy? WiFi turns off when screen locks to help maximize battery life? Check under the advanced menu on your WiFi settings
