    Hi,

Hope this is in the tight place. had posted in Animal & Pet Issues but the thread got closed

we moved into an older house a few months ago.

there were signs of rodent droppings in the attic, which we cleaned up and put expanding foam into the openings where the drain pipes came into the house on the first floor level. since doing this there has been no new droppings in the attic.

There is a strong smell in one of the upstairs bedrooms when the heating is on. and over the last two nights I heard a scratching under the floor in this room.

I lifted one of the floor boards last night and put a RAT trap down with cooked pasta with nutella on the bait plate and caught this little fella

(Warning, picture of rodent in snap trap)

do ya reckon it is a baby rat or a mouse ?

    Thanks

I think it's a shrew due to the longer upper jaw and tiny ears.

    No pic.
    Size is a good indicator, big=rat, small=mouse.

Found it, it does look more shrew like.

Definitely looks like a shrew - with the long nose.

A shrew would also explain the smell - they have a gland which emits a pungent odour.
