I've a couple. Not completely tail-less, about 60% missing. Can get done here for cruelty for cropping tails. I'm assuming it's sbv.

We had a bought cow that used throw a few with very short tails, all bulls for whatever reason, none in heifers.

I'd say they're trying to root out deformities through genotyping. Spastic Paresis used to be seen occasionally about 25 years but has become very, very rare since then. No doubt associated with certain bulls/families now no longer in use.

The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It's to promote critical thinking.

I had a calf with spastic paresis five years ago. My vet operated on her by slicing into her back leg and cutting a couple of nerves or tendons I think. Whatever she did worked and the calfs leg wasn't as straight afterwards.

One calf got pushed down the passage here and the scraper bit off his tail would he count? :-) Loveley red je bull I'd say icbf would pay a good few bob for him.
