    Hi,
I want to put in a limestone fireplace with an insert stove. I have looked at lots of both and have finally narrowed it down to two options – the” balmoral” portugese limestone fireplace and wanders 60 square insert stove from lamartine or the “Brompton” Agean Limestone fireplace from Heat Design with a Stovax Riva 55 cassette stove. The first option is more expensive than the second (nearly €1000). Can anyone please advise – what the difference is between Portugese limestone and Agean limestone? The first option seems smoother, is one better quality than the other? We regard to the quality of the surround, is one considered better “craftsmanship” than the other? Secondly, with regard to the stove – the stovax is a multi fuel burner which I like, the wanders can just take logs.
I want to be sure we make the right choice…it’s a lot of money (either way) and we will be looking at it for a very long time! Lamartine have lovely showrooms but seem expensive and I have read online that there is no negotiation over price?
    Any advice?
    Thanks

Could you ask the suppliers to give you a technical spec on the each material and compare?

    Hi there,

I asked what the difference was and have searched on the internet. Apparently, its really the look. The portugese limestone is more grainy then the aegan one....I have asked both suppliers for dimensions of the fireplaces as they are very similar. One is the Heat Design Brompton in Aegan limestone and the other is from a supplier in south county dublin so more expensive...
