I find an aftertaste tang from the Aldi tea. Don't get me wrong I think Aldi's is great but just not for every product.

Did Mrs. Doyle ever endorse a particular tea brand?

They would have made some amount of money if they did. :)

This is untrue on a few levels. Yes, the taste difference is there - pay for muck, you get muck. Like all things in life, tea has different grades and qualities. Its sold on the open market, and the highest bidder buys the best quality.

As for lyons bank - you do know they are part of the Unilever conglomorate. I dont think the "lyons" family coffers are impacted :)

Out of curiosity if Lyons and Barry's were the same price and removing the taste factor which is more Irish / better for Ireland. I'm obviously aware they don't grow the tea in Cork but I'm thinking jobs, Irish owned, etc.

Lyons tea is packaged in the UK afaik.

Don't Robert Roberts (Irish company) make Aldi tea?

    I personally don't notice a difference.

Lyons packaged in Manchester and exported to Ireland
Barrys blended and packaged in Ireland.

Do a blind taste test of Barrys, Lyons, aldi and lidl fairtraid and try and identify the brand you always drink, bet you'll be surprised.

Love a lot of Aldi's stuff, but their tea has a weird metallic after taste. Not nice at all.

The 240 for 2.79 aren't fantastic. The 160 for 2.09/2.19 or so I can't tell any critical difference to Lyons on.

The poster above who likes Tetleys is an unpatriotic freak :P

1c per bag as stated adds up quite significantly when you live with someone who can actually use 80 in a weekend. Easily. And has burnt out two kettles in three years!

I actually find Tescos "premium" own brand (not everyday value ones) they're in green or red packaging, and they are twice as strong as Barry's and Lyons, and cheap too for a 160 box (green is 3e, red 2.20e).... that's if you like extremely strong tea like me!

Well, it seems both Lyons and PG Tips are both owned now by Unilever, so it's quite plausible, unless there are different processing plants for both, which I would doubt.

Pg Tips and Lyons gold blend are very similar. I'll buy Pg Tips normally but Lyons seem to be on offer more lately so we've been stocking up.

Tesco seem to be the only place that sell them, and rarely on offer.

Aldi and lidl both do reserve tea blends now they're 80 for 1.70... I find lidl slightly better than aldi for once but both better than big brand stuff! They've both also introduced the "essentials" blend of tea... No taste whatsoever!

here, we can all make shíte tea and call it reserved . Fooling nobody.
There are things you just dont cheep out on . One of which is tea. You may reduce your shop by like 20cents but you just cant buy **** tea.

I find tetley to be among the best and are quite cheep. €3 for 180

Thanks OP, Usually go through a big box of Barrys a week, got 6 of these, sorted now for the next few months. Just in case anyone doesn't know these are being sold in Tesco in Wilton Cork in packs of 3 for €12. Not sure if this is the case everywhere or if you can buy them individually or not but it certainly made it easier to carry them.
