    Hi there

First time in the forum, pleased to meet you all :D

I have a question regarding something lying around the house.

My mother and I were discussing the few bits of old belongings we have and we got onto the subject of a spoon she had.

She tells me she has a spoon that my granddad bought, at auction, when the family of the owners of duckets grove in carlow were selling off when they were selling the property some 40 - 50 years ago.

The spoon (apparently) has a date of 1490!!

On it is written some text about an auction with a country name, (possibly columbia) and 1490 written on it!

Apparently some years ago she got it valued in Allens and thy said it was worth €60 - I find this very hard to believe should the dates be correct.

Would anyone here know of the auction/date/ value of this piece???

    Any info greatly appreciated!

    Hi Ardinn

Welcome to the forum. According to this website, the Ducketts held their clearance sale in Duckett's Grove over three days in 1923.

Pictures would tell a lot more. Is the spoon marked or is all the info you gave written on a tag attached to the spoon?

What you have there is a souvenir spoon from the 1893 worlds fair held in Chicago also known as the World's Colombian Exposition

Try James Adams Stephens Green Dublin 2. They'd be your best bet for a really good valuation.
