applying for planning

We will be getting a professional on board so no need to advise in that regard We are just at very early stage of looking at sites and this one had come up. It's not big enough for a sewage system but there is a public sewer nearby and possibly running right along the site frontage.
Prior to going to any expense, we figure we can investigate this ourselves.
Will the local council office have a layout for the town sewer and will they confirm that a connection would be made available?
Would we need something in writing from the local council to submit with a planning application if we get that far or is it just a matter of applying for permission to connect to sewer as part of planning application.
I don't really need to know the next part as if it gets this far, we will have professional on board but out of interest, how do engineers prepare drainage drawings, do they actually have to open the manhole cover on the sewer to see where the actual pipe is or do the council also have this info really available. If engineers have to go into the road messing with traffic etc and opening manholes, I imagine the costs go through the roof.
I can't imagine the council's in general being so efficient as to have any worthwhile info hence the questions but really we want to go in knowing generally what we'd should be asking for and what should be available to us.
    Thanks.

Pin point on Google maps, take screen shot & bring into word/PowerPoint , (add link back to google with coordinates) add info you're sure of ( location of sewer locally) ring local waste water engineering section of council and ask for local engineer for that area, send him/her an email with the above. Expect to make a follow up call after a few days.

Perhaps you might share with those of us who do work/have worked in local Councils on what basis you can pen one of the more disparaging remarks and completely unnecessary remarks I have read here about our local councils.

“I can’t pay my staff or mortgage with instagram likes”.

    Thanks.

With that attitude, i hope you dont get helped tbh
My LA have a record of every sewer pipe, every manhole, covel level, invert level, diameter of pipe and direction of flow digitally recorded. We will even give the public a map free of charge with this info on it.

Maybe if you were not so judgemental and made less sweeping generalisations, then you may realise that this info is readily available. You need to get your stigmata of our Public Services out of your head here for one minute.

Best of luck with your project................
