Do you need to use long life oil in the merc, if you intend to change it annually or bi annually?
Could probably get 5.5ltrs of Mir cheaper than long life 0w_40

No you don't we just use 5w/30 or 5w/40 but personally no matter what the milage and I'm sure any other mechanic would tell you the same that you should change it at a minimum of once a year regardless of the milage or anything else. So no need to use long life oil and we are in the business of just looking after mercs

Ah thanks for the reply, thought I was sent to coventry.
So would this stuff do the right job? http://www.halfords.ie/motoring-travel/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-5w30-fully-synthetic-bmw-mb-oil-5l

Use a decent quality synthetic and just ensure that it meets the standard for your car, so on the back of the can it will say MB229.3 or MB229.5. I think for a C180K with an M271 engine use 5W30 MB229.3 but check your manual first.

Also with this engine ensure you do not have a timing chain rattle at start up. If you hear it get it checked/changed immediately
