Yes, you can apply to sit the test as soon as you have done all 12 EDT lessons. You'll be subject to the same waiting time as everyone else (the RSA website lists the estimated wait times at each test centre) but there is no official restriction on how long you have it wait.

You can apply to do your test once you have your learner permit but you'll remain on hold until all 12 lessons are uploaded by your ADI. Once this is done you come off hold and your test gets scheduled.

How long does the upload take?
And this gets checked my your examiner on the day of your test right?

    Also forgot the crucial bit:
Is it 6 months you can apply for your driving test -
After completing the 12 ADI lessons is it 6 months after the last lesson you've done
    or also
After holding your provisional license for more than 6 months?

You can apply for the test whenever you want. You can't sit the test till you've had a permit for 6 months and completed the 12 EDTs. So if you got your permit on the 1st Jan the earliest you can sit the test is the 1st of July, assuming all the EDT's are uploaded.

Best way to do it is apply and mark yourself unavailable till the 6 months are up and you may get a test quicker

After each EDT lesson is done, your instructor goes to the RSA's website and logs the lesson as being complete. The lesson should show up immediately on your driver account. Your driver account is on hold until all 12 lessons are done. While your account is on hold, you can not apply to sit your test. Once the last lesson is logged as done, this hold is taken off your account & you can now apply to do your test. It takes about 24 to 48 hrs for your driver account to be taken off hold.

No, you can't be assigned a test date in the first place, until you have done all 12 lessons. As you wouldn't be there if you didn't have them all done, there is nothing for him to check up on .

You don't have to worry about the 6 month wait. You have had your learner permit since 2013. The 6 month wait applies to people when they first get their license. For example, a person who got their leaner permit today, has to wait until Sep 20 until they can sit their test. You have had your learner permit for 2 years, so the 6 month wait does not apply to you.

Is there any advantage in terms of waiting times in applying for the test before the 12 lessons are done?

You can't apply until all 12 are done. Read the post above about learner driver accounts being on hold until all 12 are done.

    Not strictly true.

A learner CAN apply for their test at any point, even before completing EDT 1 if they wish.
If they do apply before completing their EDT they will be placed on "EDT Hold" this means their application will be partly processed. This soaks up part of the waiting period. In practice it might reduce the wait by a couple of weeks. This may or may not be an advantage depending on the experience or readiness of the pupil
