So, I am currently in 6th year in secondary school, and next year I'm planning on doing CSIT in NUIG. At the moment, I have a custom built (not very good, I didn't look into it enough, but it's ok for what I do) PC running windows. For college, I want a 16" or 17" laptop, without an operating system (going to install linux, and don't want to waste money on Windows if I'm not going to use it). My budget is around €400-500, and I want it to last for at least 2 years. Thanks :)

Unless you plan on living in on campus accommodation DONT buy a 17". 15" is the max you want, really. If you need it you can put a 22" monitor in your room, but carrying a tanker around all day is a nightmare, trust me, been there.

Fair point. Do you have any suggestions as to which laptop could work?
