Connecting at LHR

Hi, we're landing in LHR Terminal 5 tomorrow at 18.55, and our connecting flight is from terminal 2 at 20.25 i.e. 90 minutes gap. This corresponds exactly to the 'minimum connection time'.

Just wondering has anyone any experience of this. We're a bit concerned about time being tight. One of us is a Chinese citizen, and we also have a two-year old :-) Thank you

It is tight. If you are switching terminals you will be bussed from the plane you land on to the central bus area, which is not that big, and you get on a bus to the next terminal. These buses are very regular. Chances are you will be put through security again.

Be sure to take enough clothes/toiletries for when you land. 90 minutes will be close for baggage to make it to the final destination.

That's a pretty unusual connection. Do you have separately bought tickets for each leg?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think that the bus transfer from the plane no longer takes place after EI's move to terminal 2 six months ago.At least it wasn;t the case for me when I had to connect from Terminal 2 to 3 last October. Only had 90 minutes too by the way and had time to spare.

I think the OP and family are flying DUB-LHR-PVG. There are transfer buses from T5A to T2. I think the OP will be going to T2B. I would ask the OP to query what they need to do with the BA crew although I think they will have to route through Flight Connections who will bus them to Terminal 2. I hope there are no delays DUB-LHR.

Nope it's all on the one ticket. We have been screwed over completely with the Lufthansa strike. We were supposed to go weds, then Thursday, and now tomor instead...

Sorry should have clarified, Beijing is the ultimate destination.

I managed T5 to the bar just before the departure gates at the old "green mile" in T1 in just over 32 minutes last April, but then it was Good Friday and I had an awful goo on me for a pint...

I don't think the other passengers I elbowed out of my way at various points saw it the same was as I did :p

It's actually just my wife and daughter that are travelling. I wouldn't be worried if was me travelling!

Lufthansa are crippled with this strike, and instead rebooked them to BA to LHR, then air china to Beijing.

I checked in at the desk the other day rather than online and asked for seat near front got row 2. If they can get seats near front it's worth a good few minutes. Don't be afraid to skip the queue at security either- people understand.

There are ways and means of making up time.

And do not underestimate the time it takes to get from t5 to the gates further out the terminal with the shuttle train etc.

    Arriving T5 to T2

Follow purple signs to flight connections, this brings you to the main part of T5, ensure you take the staircase DOWN for the bus to Terminals 1,2,3,4

Take the T2 bus (every 15 minutes, takes 10-15 mins)

Proceed to flight connections up the stairs (T2 is basically a smaller version of T5), go for Ireland/UK domestic passenger channel (This is NOT the EU passport line)

    Do the passport formalities

    Clear security

Get to gate A21 -25 where Aer Lingus operate out of, its in the main concourse of T2 (You must be flying Aer Lingus as BA don't operate our of T2, Aer Lingus code shares with BA so it will have a BA flight number)

If at any time you get confused find someone dressed in a horrible purple colour and ask them

Its faster do T5 to T2 than T2 to T5 as security in T5 tends to be slower....

Ah, that explains it. It's probably costing Lufthansa a fortune.

OP's family are connecting from a Dublin flight to a long haul flight. They should not go near passport control in T2.

As posted above the OP is not asking about flying TO Ireland he is asking about flying FROM Ireland and connecting onto an international flight.

To my mind that should read:

    Arriving T5 to T2

Follow purple signs to flight connections, this brings you to the main part of T5, ensure you take the staircase DOWN for the bus to Terminals 1,2,3,4

Check screens and proceed to appropriate gate.

We made it from t5 to t2 a couple of weeks ago in about 30 mins with a lot of running. Our flight in was delayed by 3 hours so it only gave us about 45 mins connection time. We made it but our bags didnt so bring any essentials in your hand luggage
