CPU Temp high

Hi I was putting a PC together and I was just running it and it seems to have trouble cooling. When I was putting the fan on the cpu the paste accidently got smudged just a tiny tiny bit, but now I am worried about the cpu temperature. Its just fan cooled and is a budget pc for someone so I am not looking to add more cooling to it but I want to know how to reapply thermal paste (and clean it) and if there is a shop in Dublin city center I can go in to get the paste plus cleaners.

The idle temperature is around 44C but when I started CPU and memory stress test it started to climb and I stopped the test after only about 5 minutes as it was going over 80C. Now this is an office PC and I dont think it will ever be under much stress but I would like to sort this out now so it does not turn into a problem later. Any advice is welcome.

I'm not too familiar with the shops in Dublin so the only place I know of that will probably have thermal paste is Maplins. You can get isopropanol in most chemists.

Before you buy anything though what cpu do you have? And what cooler? A year or two ago I had high cpu temps and it turns out one of the plastic nips on my cooler was broken so it was seated flatly on the cpu. Also what program are you measuring temps with. Make sure you are using a couple of different ones to as in my experience some display false readings such as speedfan, or at least they do for me.

You can grab a thing called Tim cleaner and thermal paste from any PC world.

Just watch the TIM cleaner, that stuff can blow your mind with the smell ;)

Can you give us more specs about your PC?

And maybe a picture of the inside, it could be bad airflow not helping the situation.

I've had the plastic holders which secure stock Intel coolers pop out on me before, leaving it secured with only 3 of 4, and not giving good contact with the heat sink. Worth double checking that they are all clicked in properly
