    Hello all,

Ive read through tbe relevant form but one part confuses me regarding tax allowence. I have just claimed my partners tax credits as she does not work. She minds our children at home. Am I entitled to claim the home carers tax credit? And if so can it be back dated and by how far back?
I never knew this existed until today hense why im asking.

    Regards
    Rich

You sound like you qualify but only Revenue can tell you this for sure. Home carers applies if your spouse isnt working (or earns less than 5k) and you have children under 18. The claim can be dated back 4 years to 2011.

You may already be getting home carers through your credits. It would do no harm to ring the helpline and check with them.

Do you have to apply for this every year after the tax year has ended or do revenue just apply the credit every year after the first year you get it?

I've found that they add it automatically once you've claimed. Just beware that if your wife does start working and earns over the limit allowed, you'll have to repay the portion of the credit you received.
