    Hi,

Just wondering whether I can clean the oil that has leaked from the engine and spread around? Can I do it at home with water or just a rug instead of going to a mechanic? What is the procedure?

    Thanks

auto glym degreaser is also very good , bang it on , scrub it if thick , and repeat then rinse off with a hose .

Silly question but : Can't I just use water and something like a dishwasher or something? or maybe a rug to clean it off? Have to go for the NCT so preparing

I put a plastic bag over the electronics held on with an elastic band before, and power washed the engine, it worked very well.

Ever tried to clean a greasy frying pan with water?

Oil repels water, you need something which mixes with oil like gunk.

True! So I will have to get a degreaser then maybe?!

My mechanic has a hot water power hose, worked well shifting oil.

I had to do this on my car a few weeks back. A great tip is to pour white spirit into a spray bottle and spray it directly onto the affected areas. You don't even need a brush (unless it's turned to gunk with really heavy dirt).

Just spray and leave for a minute. Then go back over the same areas and the second pass sprays the oil away.

I found the AutoGlym Engine and Machine Cleaner to be good, have used it on a few cars...

Yeah but no need to go buy anything special, kitchen/oven cleaner will do the job.

    Parafin works well.

The joys of driving with gods juice is that the fuel in the tank will clean the oily bits on a car, if you have the divils juice it'll just make a mess
