My wife bought me an early birthday present. One of these bad boys, the new Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Sport. It has some great reviews.

It's a lot of glass for the money. The local camera shop had it at a very good price and with a trip coming up soon we get a tax refund :D

Got home this afternoon and took a few shots to try it out.

The view down the Corndale Valley at 240mm.

Looking forward to taking this lens out to get some nature shots.

I'm considering this lens too. How good is it for fast action shots, assuming lighting was good? :)

I am yet to use it that way. It is quite a lump of glass but putting it on a monopod should be OK.

I'm currently breaking one in myself. I'm finding the foot to be a bit of a pain in the ass when hand holding as it's not far forward enough to hold it that way when extended to 600 and I find I have to rotate it so it's ontop to have it not get in the way if holding the barrel. Which is fine unless you have something like a strap hanging out of it.
In short what I'm saying is my long lens technique is a mess.

I can feel air being drawn in and expelled through the seems around my battery door when zooming. I'm not super happy about having air and possibly particulate drawn into my mirror box but it does point to the weather sealing on the lens making it easier to pull air in through the camera so that's possibly a plus. I will bravely let CabanSail test the weather sealing for the benefit of boards.

This is slightly left of centre 100% at f11, I'm pretty pleased with the quality. Unfortunately he didn't stick around for a f6.3 comparison

Note it may seem to lose detail in whites there but bird plumage under direct light (I am using a flash to fill and fix) can do that and isn't anything to do with the lenses resolving power.

    Finally and strictly for kicks.

Good to see Sigma getting the act together when it comes to lens aesthetics.

Just wondering how you folks are getting on with this lens? I've been given the green light by SWMBO to purchase, but I'm torn between buying this lens or finally going FF and getting a Nikon D750 instead.

    FF ftw

    FF ftw

I'm leaning that way too, but the reach of the 600mm would be very beneficial to the type of photography that I'm in to.:)

It all depends on what you are into shooting and the glass you have already.

Myself I would probably go Full Frame first, but I had done so before buying this lens.
