Insert stove...what material on the chimney breast?

Started an account here just to avail of advice on a renovation i'm doing. Intending to put an insert stove in to the sitting room, flush to the wall, no surround. I have already ripped out the old fireplace and was left with only the builder's opening. Got someone to reline the chimney. We can't afford the stove for now so was advised that we could simply slab over the whole breast with insulated board. When we're ready for the stove we can then cut an opening in the board and put in the stove.

My concern is around combustibles and plaster cracking. Is it ok to do what is outlined above? Or, should the breast by slabbed with a concrete board? Any advice appreciated.
