Hi, I am a first time driver and am new to the whole insurance thing. I spoke with my mothers insurance company on Monday and got put as a named driver on my mothers car. I was told to send a copy of my licence to their email, which i did. I have received no reply or conformation that i am insured to drive my mothers car yet. Is that standard practice and i am to assume that i am now insured to drive? Do i have to wait for documentation? Thanks for answering.

Yesterday was St Patricks Day. They were probably closed & not processing changes to policies or checking their emails. If you only spoke to them on Monday, you need to give them time to process the change to the policy. Give them a ring to see at what point you were covered. It may have gone into effect immediately after you got off the phone with them, or it may take them a few days to process the change. Only the insurance company can tell you that. They should send you mother out some paperwork showing the change to the policy, but it will take a few days to come.

You can only be sure that you are insured once you are in possession of a certificate of insurance with you name on it.
