    Soil test IAS Labs

    P indexes :
    3-Very Low - index 1
    5-Low - index 2
    8-Normal - index 3
    30-High - index 4

    K indexes:
    50- Very Low - index 1
    100-Low- index 2
    150-Normal - index 3
    200 -High - index 4

    Field 1. is 5 acres Hay and Silage each year. Got 15,000 gals of watery slurry this year after soil test 1st time in 5 yrs. always got 4 x 0-7-30 each spring followed by 8 x 18-6-12 in April

    Soil test result:
    P=7.1
    K=42
    PH= 7
    lime Requirements None. Soil index P =3.

    Would CAN do here or do I need something with more K bearing in mind it got 15,000 gals of water slurry since.

    Field 2 contains 3 acres of Moore, Rushes Might Clean up this year, Never Fertilized, Summer Grazing.

    P=1.65
    K=92
    PH= 5.9
    lime Requirements 8.75 tonne/Ha. Soil index P =1.

    Field 3 reclaimed Bog-Dry Gravel and Peat circa 4 acres. good grazing but looking very yellow now. Was leased.

    P=2
    K=75
    PH= 7.4
    lime Requirements-none. Soil index P =1.
    is there a fert with high P?

    Field 4. - about 5 acres of wet ground. requires reseeding and drainage work.
    P=1
    K=40
    PH= 6.1
    lime Requirements 6.25 tonne/Ha. Soil index P =1.

    any advice appreciated?

    I'm thinking 16-4-20 on 1st field as P is high enough.

    On the rest 10-10-20.

    Plot Results
    No. PH P K

    1 5.73 2.47 103.00
    7 6.09 2.75 113.00
    9 5.96 1.84 79.20
    15 5.94 0.81 92.70

    What fertiliser applications would people recommend for the above results?

    In particular the last plot - 15, P result is 0.81 index 1.

    What fertiliser should I use to bring up this result?

    Hello Liv,
    I got results of low P before (it was 1.6), and was recommended to use 0-16-0 to bring up the P level.
    I should add a disclaimer that I wouldn't be the best to advise on fertiliser, just re-telling what I was told for the low P issue. ;)

    I no expert either, but I was told that that stuff (Super Phos I tink its called) leeches a lot, and gets lost in the soil. Building up P is a long term job-no quick fix

    I have used 0-16-0 before but am thinking of using 18-6-12 for a few years and build up over 2-3 years.

    can you get access to pig slurry or any other slurry

    also PH around 6.5 will release more from the soil but dont go above 6.5 as it will lock the trace elements

    I've brought soil from index 1 to mid twos on p using pig slurry and I ran with a bag to the acre of 18-16-0. Duck slurry is a serious job if you can get access to it. It also will have the neighbours screaming.
