Hi, looking for some advice here,
Ive handed in my notice in my job of over 7 years because I was over worked and couldn hack it anymore( long story i wont get into right now). Ive never been on the dole or job seekers or needed money from the government.
Ive been told by some people that because I havent been sacked or made redundant I could have to wait for 8 weeks to get any money from the government. What should my course of action be? Also I am going away on holiday for 3 weeks just after I leave my job ( already planned well before this happened) does this add another 3 weeks on to the time i have to wait to sign on???? I wonder is there anyone out there with an inside -info? does it depend on who I see when i go in there.. would they treat me favourably since ive worked all my life ( over 20yrs) without ever claiming the dole.?? Thanks!

If you left your job voluntarily, it'll be NINE weeks before you're paid. See here.

Pay particular attention to the disqualification paragraph:

"You may be disqualified from getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 9 weeks if you:

Left work voluntarily and without a reasonable cause
    Lost your job through misconduct
Refused an offer of suitable alternative employment or suitable training - if you have been on a penalty rate of JB for at least 21 days
Are aged under 55 and get a redundancy payment of more than €50,000. The exact length of your disqualification (up to 9 weeks) will depend on the amount of redundancy payment you received."

You might be able to bypass the disqualification period if you can prove to Welfare you had no option but to leave your job.

    Hope this helps!

Its important when goimgvup to SW to have the correct documentation and ID.
Check out the site for details. Also depending where you are it will require you making an appointment.
