Canon 5D Mark iii V Canon 6D

    Hey all,

I am looking at upgrading to a fullframe camera over the next couple of months. Initially I was thinking of buying the 5D Mark iii, but the more I look at reviews and comparisons the more I am swayed towards the 6D. I currently have a 700D which I will be keeping. The main attaction for me is the full frame sensor, image quality and either upgrades can handle low light shooting better than the 700D. I had started saving a while back for the 5D Mark iii and I will reach my goal in the summer.

I dabble in a bit of everything really. I still haven't found my true calling, but I would hope to "specialise" in landscape photography along with some wildlife photography (but I suck at this). I am not a massive fan of portrait or sports photograpy. I do the odd gig for work, but only as a favour as I don't perticularly enjoy photography as a job.

Anybody have any combination of these cameras that would like to lend me some wisdom?

    What lenses do you have?

Might need to get myself a new wide angle lens. Maybe my girlfriend will be happy with the Sigma :)

    Sigma 10-20mm F3.5
    Canon 50mm F1.8
    Canon 100mm F2.8L Macro
    Canon 70-200mm F4L

As far as i can see there are two big differences that are relevant to your query.

The first is the focus system. one cross type - versus loads.

2nd is there are dual cards in the 5d with a cf and an sd. The 6d has an sd. From using the 5d i find that the cf writes so much faster than the sd - the sd limits a burst considerably. I can only assume that the 6d is contrained by the sd card and its write speeds.

If you are landscaper and that's what you want to commit to, go with the 6d and save a massive wad of cash, buy yourself a nice wide angle prime and take serious night-time landscapes with its marginally superior iso performance.

If on the other hand you think you will continue with the nature stuff, and you can afford it, then the 5d is the way to go - its got a more robust build, the focus system is magic and you can just use the cf card for better burst rate.

Christ... looks like I will need to buy both :P

Thanks for the feedback. What kind of lens would you suggest, without breaking the bank :P

Spent a long time with this debate myself, ended up with the 5D Mark III
Whatever you go for, I'd say glass is what you'll lust over and sink your money into more so... the saying "date the body, marry the lenses" is definitely true.

Yea, definitely. I was originally going for the 6D. I had a car loan for the past 4-5 years and I was paying it off, but sure I paid that off a year ago or so and the direct debit continued and was put into my savings :P That's whaen I thought 5D, but I think I will go for the 6D and get a nice lens or two. I was looking at the 24-105mm L series lens but the missus is going to get that one, would be a waste to have two in the family. I would like to invest in a proper wide angle prime, but not 100% sure which one, I am still very much in the crop censor state of mind when looking at focal lenghts.

i prefer the layout of the 6d buttons but i think its because i have the 60d and its the same, hired a 5dmk3 and got a blister on my thumb from the grip!! didnt like it as much, but thats probably because i wasnt used to it. im having the same dilemma and i think ill go with the 6d with a 24-70.
