Pedal/Cleat question

Im wondering if there are pedals out there that release differently than Shimanos.
I guess they all release/unclip differently but im not sure as to what that is.
I have a pair of shimanos (SPD SLs) and unclipping is aggravating an old injury.
I have the spring tension tuned down as low as i can get away with but not good enough.
So are there pedals that unclip with a lot less pressure/less sudden/ some other method other than rotation???
    Cheers,
    Marty.

I use the sh56 cleats and find them fine. But the trade off being that you can pop out when you're putting the power down, but you get used to the limits. I use them on my commuter which is ideal.

Cheers lads....really want to stick with spd SL's(road pedals) though if possible.
Do Time or Look release differently?...like without having to exert s much rotational pressure.

Speedplays require very little rotation force to disengage - particularly the MTB / touring "Frog" version - and also have large free movement / float.

Main issues are cost (cheapest pedals around €100, cleats are >€40. The Speedplay road pedal range are even dearer) and slippiness (there is feck-all grip with them - not so much of an issue if you are using them recessed on a MTB type shoe but could be a disaster on a road shoe)

There is a light action version of SPD-SL pedal, still requires same movement, but less resistance, don't kno if that is any use to you.

They could be the job alright!
