I have a 1.8tdci model and am looking at buying oil for it, ive searched online and some places say part synthic others full, bit confused tbh which one would be best? Im guessing the full would be the better oil but how would i know which is best for the engine?

    Cheers

try your local motor factors maybe for this stuff......

    http://www.carlube.co.uk/triple-r/carlube-triple-r-5w30-longlife-fully-synthetic-ford

got some the weekend for €19.00 ex vat for 5 litres, lad in the factors said its being phased out - (i presume he means superseded)

p.s think you might need 5.6 litres.....

Not all fully synthetic oils, even if same spec, are the same, cheap oil is cheap for a reason.... The amount of synthetic additives vary significantly by brand..... Spend as much as you can afford to to get the best quality oil..... Using cheap oil and saving €20 could cost you a big multiple of that if engine has problems due to cheap or poor quality oil.
Finally also, just because it states the correct spec on the pack doesn't mean it's good quality oil.

Even if it's the exact same spec as the top brands and speced for that certain engine?
I'd imagine your paying more for the brand

the normal retail price on this oil is about €60 incl vat. its just some factors have it on offer at the moment. id agree wit you, very important to put in correct spec & quality oil. Im sure carlube oil is not up their with the likes of castrol... but it cant be that bad in fairness.

Ok been in 2 parts places just to ask there opinion on which oil either the top brand or the cheaper version
One did say the car lube stuff out sells the branded stuff on most models and he was of he opinion your paying more for the name that the oil
The other lad said it's peace of mind to know your using the branded stuff but couldn't say if if the cheaper stuff was any diff
Not that I'm trying to skimp on the oil but I'm more interested to know is there a difference? Like both castrol and car lube state exact oil specific for car can they be much different? Just curious
I'll more than likely use the castrol or Maxol brand tbh

use a good quality always and not some of this summer sh1te oil
for the extra few quid its always worth it and you wont hear the engine rattling from cheap oil

The full effects of which oil you choose might not be obvious but better quality oils like Castrol or comma will protect your engines vital parts better than most and for longer.
I worked in motor parts business for good few years and did detailed training course with comma oil from UK. Comma oil is Top quality oil at fair, not cheapest, price. They actually supply oil direct to several top European car manufacturers for use when cars are built and get their first oil fill. They only manufacture oil to every manufacturers own specification and use correct synthetic mix percentages. I remember them saying if they can't make lubricant to manufacturer spec, they won't make it, until that standard can be met.

Check out their website commaoil.com They also list correct specs etc for all other lubricants your car needs.

If you really want to know whats what in regards to oil the best web site by far is bobistheoilguy.com . However generally speaking any "big brand name" fully synthetic that has been tested to meet or exceed the factory specification is fine to run. Watch out for some oil that says "suitable" in front of the specification, this usually means that it hasn't been tested by the institute responsible for that specification.

i would have used mobil esp fully synthetic 5w-30 but now ford garages are doing castrol oil cheaper for their cars.
cheap oil is cheap how long does it last, even the taxi guys are using mobil esp for long life and lower engine wear.

In recent years I only ever put the required car maker branded oil in at service. It is usually less then the price of other high spec oil. If it was the case of using an equivalent oil brand and it actually spec. "FORD" on the label I would use it if I had no choice or the customer gave me a generic oil to put in. I doubt the FORD main dealers in Ireland would waste their money stocking oil just because it say "FORD" on the Can/Barrel. These days with engines being run at unbelievable high temperatures with very little room for temp. error you really need to buy from a dealer. If you have scientific knowledge and you can make an accurate informed decision then the engineers that designed the engine... no bother she is all yours mate, work away it's you that picks up the bill in the end.
Remember........... "The Best Oil is Not always the Best Oil for your engine..!!!
