Commercial conversion

I've searched through former threads but I couldn't find the info I'm looking for and I'm hoping someone might help me here.
I'm VAT registered and I'm looking into converting a Toyota Supra or a 2.2 Prelude into a commercial vehicle if it's legally possible?
I don't mind paying for petrol but I can't bring myself to pay the horrendous tax on something like that, I don't need or want back seats and I know any conversion would have to be complete and done properly.
My question is, is this even possible?!
    Thanks in advance.

    Simple answer, NO!

I did see a thread on this somewhere here, but you might have to do a search for it.

I've heard differing stories from different people, today someone told me about a mk1 Golf their friend has converted into a commercial vehicle.
I'll have to make some calls to the likes of Parfit to find out for sure.

It is possible, I'm not sure how to go about doing it, but there is a commercial supra about near me.

yes it is possible and has been done many times. many strange and wonderful motors have been commercialised for this exact reason. On the legalities end, it will need to be a hatchback obviously as a saloon wont work. You will need to remove the rear seats and seat belts, fill in the mounting points for seats and belts with weld so they can not be used again, place a plank of MDF from the boot to the rear of the front seats. The car should have no obstruction from the back door to the rear of the front seats to allow for loading. It is not necessary to cover over the rear side windows but it does make it look smarter. Present it to a DOE centre for testing and report to the tax office with DOE cert for reclassification of vehicle from private to commercial.
It is not actually necessary for you to be vat registered for this, you can simply either claim you are a sole trader or your commercialising the vehicle for sale.
I have seen a Mitsubishi GTO, plenty of estate 5 series & E class' and a 1.7 ford puma converted. Other way to go is to get a big estate and cut off the sides and roof and turn it into a pick up truck type thing. Actually there was something like this on donedeal recently, it was a Rover SD1 V8 and it lookd epic.

yes it can be done doesn't matter whether its a saloon or hatchback. you will have to ring around vtn (doe) centres and find one that is certified to examine change of use. they will probably charge around a hundred euro. this is separate to the actual test fee.

Sorry I stand corrected so. Although with the various loopholes for what is a commercial vehicle and what isn't being closed I can't see it being an easy solution.

Doe centers don't examine change of use it is the motor tax that examine it and there is no fee for change
