    Hi All,

I was just wondering if you could offer some advice?

My girlfriend is currently living in the UK but is looking for office receptionist or admin work in Ireland at the moment.

She's having a hard time being called for interview let alone anything else.

Has anybody here ever applied for work in Ireland from the UK or know of any website that specialise in helping somebody from the UK find work over here?

    Thanks in advance.

Could she start by joining one of those agencies that offer temporary receptionists?

Has she a PPS no.? I'd get that in hand first.

Yeah, that's a tough one. Where candidates are ten-a-penny, companies won't want to wait weeks for someone to move across, get their stuff in order and start. They want a candidate who can start in 2 weeks, and will select them first.

The best way to do this is to save up cash and have her move over her for 2/3 months and get herself registered with a temping agency to get bits and pieces of cash in while she hunts for a permanent position.

Unless you have a skillset in high demand or a lot of contacts, you'll have an impossible time sourcing work while abroad.

Why? And how, without an Irish address?

To apply, she'd have to show up in person at a DSP office. May as well do it when she gets here.

OP - unless she's got some specialist skills (eg language), there's no way she'll get an office/clerical job here without being living here. There's just no reason for an employer to bother.

It makes life easier to have the PPS in hand. From the OP, it seems her partner is living here. Why can she not make an appointment at Welfare, and give his address? That's how I got mine BEFORE I moved here. Welfare were aware of my circumstances, so it was fine.

If she's able to get over on short notice for interviews could she use your address on her cv while she's applying?

We've tried that but then companies that are interested invariably end up saying "why do you have a UK phone number?" and then it eventually ends up with them saying "ohh sorry we're not hiring from the UK".

I've said that I'd send her an Irish SIM so that she can fake being in the country but she's not comfortable with that.

She also doesn't want to come over here without a source of income... very catch 22 unfortunately.

Thanks for the advice anyway guys I think it's pretty much what I was expecting.

...anybody need a secretary or office admin for their place of work? :-/
