    Hey Folks,

Im thinking of buying a car van, preferable a focus van anything up to 06 I guess..

Just a quick one, what would be the best way regards to insuring and taxing the car. Like the car will 90% used for social and domestic but would be used to lug some work gear around the odd time.

Just hoping to get some thoughts and feedback on the car itself and also best way of insuring/taxing it.

    Cheers

By the letter of the law you will have to tax it privately if it's not used for 100% commercial purposes.

I don't know if car-vans command an insurance premium

You might be better off to buy a hatchback car and fold down the seats

Sound for that, I was thinking that although I have no problem taxing privately if I have too. Will have to buzz insurance companies tomorrow. I prefer a panel van tbh for security more than anything

Just got a small van myself. You can insure them easy, but it is commercial/trade insurance. FBD will insure car derived vans as cars but they are a rip off at the minute and the trade covers social and domestic use anyways. Only flaw i see with it is you can't get an open policy to allow you to drive other vehicles with third party cover, but what can ya do.
Also in terms of tax private is no hassle at all, and even the commercial seems handy to get. I might try and get it just out of curiousity, not that it makes any difference to my cost really (1.3 turbo diesel engine) but if I wanted to get a bigger van in the future.
    Hope this helps
