Could anyone give any insight as to what is involved in working as a Merchandiser? Specifically with the likes of CPM or the Lites group where you are working on behalf of one of their clients. Is it basically a job stacking shelves in stores with their clients products or is that being too simplistic? Thanks in advance.

think you have to do orders for the shops, know all the promotional stuff, have regular meetings with managers/owners

Thanks berger89. I'm thinking of applying for one of these positions but from reading up on them my worry is that there might be more shelf filling than orders/admin/meetings etc. Would anyone else here have done the job or maybe work in a store that has merchandisers come in on behalf of clients that could give some more details? Cheers.

My brother in law does it for a large enough crowd, it probably is quite a bit of stacking and facing the products with the other stuff taking up a bit less time, however he seems to do quite a bit of admin for orders etc and meetings too. Plus there is a bit of time on the road as he hits a few places everyday. Sure apply for it and you will find out more in the interview.

Merchandising roles are well mainly merchandising... Typically will involve meeting order done by rep when it's deliver and stocking the shelves. Depending on what stores and location you could do up to 8 stores a day or as little as 3-4 if it's a big grocery call.

As above be sure and ask... Also important to ask is what contract it's on, as in what company would you be representing. This will give you an idea of what products do you can assess what you'd need to be doing in store.

A lot of companies who use agencies for merchandising will typically have a team of reps also for ordering and store management. Find out if reps are with agency or direct with company also.

If you have no sales experience and would like repping, it's a good door in.

Did it for over 5 years part time through school and college. It was mainly shelf stacking, displays, etc

The rep does the offering and its your job to meet the delivery. Might have to compete for display space occasionally. I was covering all Dunnes in limerick, Kerry and north cork.

Before that all Dunnes in the limerick with quite a few city centre centra type shops
