Corks 96fm is the stale bread of broadcasting.

Today Corks 96fm was one of the only stations in Ireland that didn't broadcast the Aretha Franklin song in tribute to Tony Fenton at 2.30pm citing an email error as an excuse. Whatever ones thoughts on these tributes anyway the station itself is caught in a formulaic time warp.

They have about 2 cds of songs which are on loop every 2 hours every single day. It's possible to hear the same songs upto 5 times during the day.

They have the same presenters and producers for the last 20 years. The station is so unimaginative, and so stale and repetitive it's an embarrassment to broadcasting, to music and to Cork. It's refreshing to have newer stations like Radio Nova and 4fm take a bite out of their listenership figures.

The excuse for today's tribute failure is laughable and its more likely because they've never heard of Aretha Franklin let alone Tony Fenton.

Even Midwest radio in Mayo played the Aretha Franklin song for Tony and they were in the middle of a country n Irish show at the time.

iRadio didn't bother with the tribute either, which is a shame.

No, they didn't, but 2fm, Lyric and Gold all did.

I'm kinda surprised that iRadio didn't. Maybe their setup is so robotic now, that it couldn't be done...
