Is the ECU on a Peugeot 307sw a hard fix?

Our car has been in the garage 3 weeks now. ECU repair.

    Is it a hard fix?

Mechanic keeps telling us it's nearly fixed, or he got the wrong part or he's reprogramming the keys and now he's to bring it to a Peugeot dealer because he can't resolve what ever is wrong with it...

Should this be a big job?

    He needs
    • The ECU
    • Key + Barrel
    • BSI unit (behind glovebox)

Miss any of the above and it won't work

    Thanks dgt...

It's still not fixed. Is it honestly that hard? He said he brought the ECU over to Peugeot on Thursday, said they were reprogramming the keys for it and it should be back with him by Friday. On Friday he rang and said he needed to get a new Body Control Unit? He rang yesterday and said he was on his way to get that part and today now he can't get the right ECU.

Honestly, are we dealing with a cowboy? He's telling us we owe him close to 500 euro for this.

    What exactly did he do?

Did he send the ecu away to be repaired or fit a secondhand one or buy a brand new replacement.

If secondhand, your first reply stands and all units must be an original match.

I'm not 100 percent sure. He did get the part from northern Ireland. I'll ask him in the morning. 4 weeks he's has this car now.

Any key and barrel or the key and barrel from the car the ecu came from? Same question for the bsi.

He will need the set as mentioned all from the one car so they can all talk to each other - that is if he is going the second hand route.

Alternatively, your ECU could be repaired and just stuck back in without touching the other items.

He said it couldn't that he had to replace it...

Fair enough so he needs all the bits as mentioned, all from one car.

Had to replace ecu bsi and key on my old 307. Got parts off a Peugeot specialist breaker in the UK for €200 all codes matched old ones as I sent him the codes. Brought to Peugeot who had everything programed in less than 2days at a cost of €180.

The car was running but stopped and then just cut out. Would turn over but wouldn't start. AXA assist came out and tried to jump it and said he reckoned it was the fuel pump. We brought it to a garage who said it wasn't fuel pump but was the ecu and that he didn't know much about them but he knew a garage who did and we brought it there.

    That was 4 weeks ago.

    What year/engine is the 307...?
If the ecu is the problem then as above you need a ecu/bsi/key or swap circuit board immobilier chip into your own keyfob housing.
Btw the engine bay fusebox can also cause this problem so i would try one of those first...;-)

Fuse box was already changed before he said ecu was replaced. It's a 2002 1.6 petrol skywagon model.

Sounds like hes just throwing parts at it to be honest.

If the ecu is the problem there is three ways of doing this job.
1 buy new ecu from dealer get dealer to programme it.

    2 get old ecu repaired.

3 replace ecu, chip in key and any other modules that need to communicte with the ecu for the vehicle to function which means there is no need for programming these can usually be got from a scrap yard as a kit.

So either this fella doesnt know what he is doing or there is another issue with the car and not the ecu which i think is the most likely problem here.
