Making friends in Dublin

    Hi,

I left a thread on the Dublin city forum about the same thing but thought maybe you guys would have different answers.

Basically been here for over a year, done all the clubs, meetups, classes, work nights out etc etc. Absolutely no luck. Everyone says it takes time but I've invested a lot of my time into this and it seems hopeless. Anyone have any ideas what to do?

    Thanks

    meetup.com

When I first heard of it i thought it was a bit of a dating site type place... until i actually invested a VERY SMALL bit of time into thinking about stuff i like to do and then seeing if there was something on that site.

This week alone there are 672 different meetups, ranging from The Dublin Local History group meeting up to do something to a hiking group doing a 20 KM hike at the weekend.

Most tastes are catered for, and if you go to a couple of meetups you will find yourself making new friends.

Hell, in a few months i'm off to Poland with 30 people i didn't know existed 2 months ago!!

Can anyone turn up for these meet ups if you know time and place or do you have to be a member

You are supposed to RSVP on the site, I'm not sure how they would react to a total randomer turning up. It doesn't cost anything to become a member of the groups and you can then add yourself as a maybe or a yes for an event and/or messge the organiser about it if you want to.

Yes, anyone can turn up for these meetings, and then when you are there just say to the organizer that you would like to become a member. The membership fee is very little, circa 5 euro, or nothing at all.

OP if you want to get anywhere with this thread my advice would be to be more open to people's suggestions, so far nothing has sat well with you in the other thread, you've shot everything down & provided little information that could help people to advise you.

FWIW I'll repeat my advice from the other thread - Try going to a bar if you're open to that and just chat to people idly, no need to make a best buddy the first day you're there but you never know, if you go a few times you might meet someone in the same situation or someone who shares a common interest.
