    Well folks
I'm going to buy a few incalf suckler cows or heifers, what breed would ye go for, and what prices would you think you would predict they would cost.
    Thanks

Mostly angus x fr cows here, easily kept. Lim x fr are good too. Ballpark price is around 1800. But go to a few sales yourself to see what they are making, the further north you are the more northern/scot buyers there are with strong sterling to spend.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Madden what market are you targeting?

I think you need to decide that and buy accordingly.

I've been to a few sales recently and 1400 for plain enough heifers to over 2000 for quality ones. Various breeds but simx heifers seem to be the dearest.

Thanks for replies, I plan on going to few marts at weekend see what there like, wanted to build up number with good quality cattle that would give a good weanling calf annually.

You can't beat a limo out of sim for breeding in my opinion. Black limos out of friesains are alright but can be a bit hit and miss on colour. Angus are even a bit worse but that's if your aiming for the weanlings trade. They are ideal if your finishing your own. They are selling around the twelve to fourteen mark round me for a reasonably good one. If your after export calves you'll need a bit of limo or blonde in the cows to throw a bit of style but in my eyes they need to be a good distance away from the friesains. With a small bit of sim in them they should still have enough milk or else you'll be pushing the creep fairly hard. These sort are going silly money at the moment and are anything from 1600 plus with some stupid prices of near 3 being paid by a few lads with too much money. I'd hold tight until August September when you should be able to pick them up reasonably right before the single farm goes out and lads are clearing out.

Sucklers are always high prices this time of year. If you can hold off until middle of summer or in august or September as said above you would be better off. Good time for sellers now not for buyers
