Since December, I have picked up a cold every month, bad enough to stop me running for 4-5 days.

On Sat did a nice 12 miler and that night bang, another cold hit me, On the uniflu now as it works for me. I take vitamins and drink plenty of water, so nothing on that side of things. Only thing i can see, is the central heating is on more in our house due to building work over the last few months!!

I'm having the worst run of colds that I can remember. The last 4 - 5 months have seen me with a cold about 2 days in every 3. It has been incredibly frustrating!

I put it down to a combination of my youngest starting school and possibly my having started a new job last July. Echinacea, zinc (in small doses) and vitamin C all help mitigate the symptoms for me (YMMV) but they do linger and linger and linger.

I think it's a particularly bad year for viruses in general. Our eldest (13) has had a recurring virus since October. Every 3 weeks or so he is flattened with it. He's had multiple blood tests, chest x-ray and even an ECG but thankfully there's nothing sinister there. It's a pure nuisance & really hard to shift. Our next (11) has missed two days school per week for the last 3 weeks. Again, she gets over it only to be flattened suddenly again. No 3 (8) appears to be hardier to far  Beginning to feel like the twilight zone around here.

Same here. Every other winter I might get a day or 2 of feeling not entirely 100%, but that's it.

This year I've picked up a cold about 4 or 5 times. My eldest daughter has had more sick days from school than all the previous years put together, something is definitely different this time round.

+1. I've just gotten over a bout of bronchitis that lasted three weeks. Nearly the whole of December was off running with it as well. It's particularly bad this year.

I've found the same thing this year, I've had 3 doses since autumn. I always take a couple of days off I find trying to run with a cold only seems to prolong it.

I'm glad it's not just me.

I keep thinking I'm back to 100% and get back to training only to be flattened a week later. It's been every couple of weeks since Christmas.

Yep, seem to be happening to everyone I say it to. Since November I've been having a bout of 2/3 weeks coughing and wheezing, then a short break and just when I start getting out running again, it hits me again. Haven't gotten any solid training in since last October, and haven't been the bike since then either even though our race season starts in 3 weeks. I'm completely screwed for it.

I've pretty much had a virus every second week. I'd just get back training, next day I'd be in bits, and not from pushing too hard first day back after a break. I've been like this since December. Currently on a 2 week break this time, due back tonight so I fully expect to be laid up in bed tomorrow evening.

Struggled to shake off a bad head cold this year also.
BTW some OTC medicines contain pseudoephedrine which is banned in competition by WADA and some contain phenylephrine which is not. Not that most people will get tested but you never know.

I've avoided sickness this year. Putting it down to my veggie juices. 5 or 6 times a week I have large amounts of juice containing spinach, broccoli, celery, kale, ginger, beetroot, peppers and a few other things.
I also have a smoothie with about 3 fruits most days with chia seeds, maca powder, cocoa powder.
I do get sniffles but nothing that's bad enough to stop me running.
I think it's mainly down to diet for me.

We rarely get colds or flu in our house, I put it down to it being an old factory house which is not very well sealed and the air is circulating all the time, it is impossible to keep warm though. Central heating and modern houses are havens for all kinds of bugs.

I'm on my third one in 6/7 weeks. Haven't trained since last Tuesday in an attempt to completely shake it. Think work is probably the cause of it not shifting. Heating + air con + germs means it keeps going round and round and round the office.

Currently doing a few sessions of salt therapy to get over the recent one. Seems to help me.Milage may vary pending on person.

I've been cold free this winter season. I put it down to staying away from people:)

Where in a training plan do you restart if you miss a couple of days with a cold?

I know I should stay out of this thread and stating something like this as it will now come and get me, but I've been fine. And that from someone with a crappy immune system. I did get my free flu jab this year, but flu isn't anything to do with a run of colds that people have been having of course.

+1 cold/chest infection number 3 in three months. Was at the doc this morning with my third chest infection for my third set of anti-biotics. Starts off as a cold and two days later I'm coughing up eeekk stuff (I have asthma so I'm prone but it's the colds that's kicking it all off).

I asked the doc if I was doing anything wrong e.g. training every day, eating right, don't smoke, very rarely drink, been training the best and eating the best for the past 4 months, taking vitamins. She said she can't think of anything but that it's just bad luck and the weather is playing havoc with people this year, changing temperatures and the like. Glad that it's not just me.

Getting antibiotics is going to make u weak. I have taken loads and ruined my immunity. I fought off this one by going to salt therapy. I am sick of being sick. Cayene pepper and water. Rincing your mouth with that and don't drink any think afterwards really helps. Also putting garlic in everything. I actually got sick after 10 races in a row. So much that I am not mad about racing.

After a long run I would be cold and have a hot shower to warm up but its important to have a colder shower before u get out if you don't want to be sick. Ice cold not needed but a bit cold.

Also many people take vitamins but they are no good. 100% of RDA for lots of things works out much much lower once absorbed. Am taking solgar v2000 for about 2 weeks and really feel the difference. compare them with centrum.

Same story here. Since the Monday after Bohermeen I've been off running, with a horrible flu, chest, head ache, joints etc.

Usually pretty bulletproof when it comes to colds etc, but not this year for some reason...

This year was the first year I didnt catch a cold. My wife had me taking those orange Berocca drinks for the winter months. I don't know if that's the reason why I didn't get one but I'm not complaining.

Fairly sure Berocca, rinsing your mouth with Cayene pepper and water, and having a 'colder shower before u get out if you don't want to be sick' has fup all to do with not catching a cold.

There are 200 types of virus that can cause a cold, so it's possible to have one cold after another. It's just bad luck.

When you say fairly sure. You mean in your opinion. Having a low WBC count also is a reason and taking foods to boost it is worth a try http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/feeding-eating/family-nutrition/foods-to-boost-immunity/foods-that-boost-your-immune-system

I never said that it would prevent catching a cold but it can help you get over it much quicker.
